Speculations are now running high regarding the future of Mattress Firm after it announced that it will be acquired by Steinhoff International from South Africa. The deal is said to be worth $3.8 billion and will create the largest multibrand mattress retail network in the world, allowing Steinhoff to also cement their presence in the US. The deal is expected to be finalized by September, but observers point out that Mattress Firm’s market remains stable despite the deal. Steinhoff remarks that they will not change the roster of workers once they acquire the company with Mattress Firm’s leadership to be included in Steinhoff’s executive committees. Mattress Firm also announced they will move 440 workers to their new corporate campus in S. Main St. this August.
